Quantum Computing- It is based on the theory that an atom can represent two states say, 0 and 1 at the same time and thus improve the speed of calculation by simultaneous processing by exponential terms. The qubit processors 3 Bit registers may hold all the 8 binary combinations in the same bit. This can be explained with the help of the picture. What happens when a beam of light (ie photons) is projected at a semi reflective mirror? simple, half the intesity gets deflected and half is trnsmitted. But what would happen if only 1 photon is projected on the semi-reflective mirror? complex, the single photon cannot be divided into two halves so that each half takes the available paths. Actually the photon takes both the paths at the same time! This is the fundamental principle behind quatum computing. Representing 0 and 1 by the same state. Let's hope these machines become viable in the near future...... Posted by Picasa
